NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has come up with yet another cashless payment system to enable citizens pay taxes in an easy manner, reports Anjaya Anparthi. The system has been started mainly to accept property tax. Assistant municipal commissioner (property tax) Milind Meshram told TOI that the card system facility has been made available at all 10 zone offices as well as the head office.
“The NMC is accepting property tax online for the last few years. Now, taxpayers can pay it through their credit and debit cards,” he said. Chairman of tax consultative committee Girish Deshmukh has urged citizens to avail the facilities launched for their convenience. TNN
The NMC’s property tax department is also planning to launch ‘Wallet In Payments’ system through which property tax can be paid from malls among other places. Moreover, the plan is also to launch an app for paying property tax in an easy manner.
On lines of MSEDCL’s power bills payment system, the NMC is consulting the banks to provide the facility of linking debit and credit cards with property tax under the payment on demand system.
For water bills, the NMC and private operator Orange City Water (OCW) Private Ltd have started the online payment system. OCW has also facilitated NEFT (National Electronic Fund Transefer) and RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) systems. The plan is also to start card payment system for water bills.
OCW has already started to accept cheques for Rs 100 and above.

They are going to introduce “ Wallets in Payments” where people will be enabled to pay taxes from mall and other places. This will reduce people’s woes without standing in long queues.
