Thane has been selected as a part of the smart city mission in the 3rd round of smart cities announced by the government in September 2016. The 3rd list encompasses of 27 cities from various states making it to a total of 60 cities under the smart city mission. The cities selected under the Smart Cities Mission will get Rs. 200 crore for improving their infrastructure.
